October’s NextNext Music festival showcases the next generation of musicians who, in the spirit of the Next Wave Festival, are paving radicaland new musical paths.
Coba is a New York-based ensemble led by Colombian guitarist and composer Sebastián Cruz. For the past five years Cruz has used Coba as a platform for exploring multiple approaches and instrumentations of Colombian music. After moving to New York, Cruzbecame an active member of the Colombian music scene, performing regularly with traditional and contemporary ensembles. Musical director for Lucía Pulido’s “Palenque”project, Cruz has explored diverse approaches from jazz to experimental in a never-ending attempt to reinterpret and establish a personal relationship with Colombian and South American musical traditions.
