From Parlor to Grave: Recreating a Mid-19th-century Funeral
Halloween
Oct 29, 2006
3:00pm
to 5:00pm $5
to $10 Official Site
Unlike today, death and funerals in the 19th century took place at home. Join us as we recreate the 1865 funeral of Seabury Tredwell in the Merchant’s House Museum’s double parlors and discuss the funerary customs of 19th-century New York City. Then follow the casket to New York Marble Cemetery where many residents of the Bond Street neighborhood were interred. 19th-century mourning dress is encouraged.
$10, $5 Members. Black armbands will be provided.
