Mikhail Baryshnikov, one of the greatest dancers of the modern era, comes to the 92nd Street Y with acclaimed children’s book illustrator Vladimir Radunksy to discuss their ongoing artistic projects and recent collaboration on the new book Because… (Simon and Schuster, 2007). Born in the Soviet Union, Baryshnikov began his ballet training in 1960 and defected to the West in 1974. His appearances with numerous companies in Europe and the U.S., classical and modern, left audiences and critics stunned by his abilities and moved by his artistry. He continues to be active in the dance world and runs the Baryshnikov Arts Center in Manhattan. Because… is his first children’s book. Vladimir Radunksy is the illustrator of many children’s books, including Mannekin Pis: A Simple Story of a Boy Who Peed on a War, which he also wrote, Bling Blang, My Dolly, Howdi Do and What Does Peace Feel Like? Leonard Lopate, of WNYC’s The Leonard Lopate Show, interviews the pair.
