SongLives Curated by Grammy-Award winner Susan McKeown Friday, February 17 | 8 pm | Susan McKeown and Declan O’Rourke A new series showcasing Ireland's songwriting tradition. In February, March and May, Irish Arts Center invites you to spend an evening with some of Ireland's best contemporary songwriters as they tell their stories up close and acoustically in the intimate Donaghy Theatre. Susan McKeown: The strong, richly colored contralto and the enlivening intelligence of her songs marked Grammy-winning Susan McKeown as a distinctive talent upon the release of her debut album Bones. Her powerful, emotive delivery and unique approach to a lyric have made Susan the vocalist of choice for documentary film soundtracks on CBS, Discovery Channel and PBS American Masters. Declan O’Rourke: Irish songwriter Declan O’Rourke divided his formative years between Australia and his native Dublin, honing his craft as an expatriate and developing his professional career upon his return in his early twenties. A product of the folk-rock busking tradition, O'Rourke's audience-friendly brand of acoustic pop has brought him multi-platinum success in Ireland. His rough vocal style contrasts neatly with his intelligent string- and piano-laden arrangements. Join us for two additional concerts in the series: Friday, March 23 | Michael Brunnock and Brendan O’Shea Friday, May 11 | Mark Geary and Ann Scott Admission: $18 non-member / $15 member Irishartscenter.org or 866-811-4111
