Fort Reno

Fort Reno

Cuisine: Barbecue

Cititour Review: Keepin' it simple, keepin' it good.  That is the gist behind Fort Reno, a great spot for barbecue on Union Street in Park Slope.  The restaurant with its wood and brick front blends in so well you might just pass it by, but don't.

Inside, the space is tight with room for a small bar and five or six tables.  But there's a lot to take in from the exposed brick to the recycled wood on the ceiling and lamps made out of blue mason jars.  If you're planning a stop on the weekend, I would recommend getting there early.

Brought to you by the folks at Palo Santo up the block, Fort Reno offers a full bar for classic cocktails and stick-to-your ribs comfort food.  There are St. Louis ribs, pulled pork, fatty brisket and BBQ chicken.  We tried the ribs. The were ginormous with lots of fall-off-the-bone meaty goodness.  A half rack sells for $15.  We slathered them with the house BBQ sauce that packs a high octane jalapeno punch.  For a side, we went with the mac-n-cheese and were not disappointed.   It is made with small pasta shells with lots of cheesy goodness and topped with buttery bread crumbs.  It tastes like something mama might  make.

Other sides include burnt end beans, collard greens and cole slaw. They're also serving homemade buttermilk biscuits and hot pickles.  If you are lucky enough to live nearby there is free delivery.
