Jack's Wife Freda

Jack's Wife Freda

Cuisine: Comfort Food, Diners, Sandwiches

Summary: All-day breakfast has been a New York staple for decades, and Jack's wife Freda does it so well in NoLita, with breakfast until 4pm, as well as lunch and dinner that combine a variety of culinary backgrounds in one very cute café. The restaurant is casual, with lots of natural light thanks to glass-paned doors, making it the perfect spot for brunch or a snack with coffee during the day. Breakfast encompasses a variety of dishes, like home-baked pastries including custard croissants (2), a rosewater waffle topped with Lebanese yogurt and honey-maple syrup (8) and Jack's Breakfast (17), a combination of 2 eggs, grilled steak and tomato, and pickled red onions. Lunch and dinner include simple offerings like sandwiches and salads, as well as South African-inspired dishes like Peri-Peri giblets (9). New York staples like owner Dean's grandmother's very own matzo ball soup (6) are sure to please as well, and Jack's burger (12) is already receiving praise. This is definitely a casual spot, and while the menu is limited, the food is obviously prepared with care. Jack's Wife Freda is small and quickly growing in popularity, so expect to wait to be seated at Sunday brunch. -Emily Monaco
