Cititour Review:

New York style pizza may be famous in other cities, but native New Yorkers know that there's more than one kind of pie in this overarching category. You've got pizzerias where you buy a whole pizza for dinner, restaurants where the cracker-thin slices need to be eaten with a fork and knife... and then you've got street slices, the fallback lunch, dinner or snack for anyone who's ever gone to high school in the city.

Mimi's has been an Upper East Side institution for decades, famous amongst those who know it for its perfect crust with just a few charred spots for that charcoal flavor. Most street slices need to be dabbed with paper napkins before consumption to get rid of some of their unappetizing orange grease, but Mimi's generous slices are heavy on the cheese and toppings without being greasy, even if you order the (sometimes contested) favorite pepperoni and sausage slice, complete with mushrooms and peppers, served in that nonchalant and ubiquitous way: atop two paper plates, perfect for carrying as you continue to roam the streets.

If you're looking for something a bit more substantial, try a hero sandwich: the meatball sub is only $4.75 and is therefore a standby option for students in the area, but consider the veal parm ($6.50) for a real treat.
