Is it me or are the holiday windows in New York City straying further and further away from the real meaning of Christmas?

There's the polar bear bearing down on this fur-clad mannequin at Bergdorf Goodman
where, by the way, you'll have to RSVP at its swanky restaurant BG
for an exclusive luncheon with Santa.

Then there's this Santa at Bloomingdales that looks more like a gnome than
jolly old St Nick.

At Saks, the wind blew in pixies this year with spiky icicles protruding from
their heads. This one appears to have a snowman on a leash.

At Macy's you'll find a horizontal Christmas tree spinning in the window. And
I don't think those are sugar plum fairies dancing overhead.

Or how about this fire-breathing dragon with scary picture-tube eyes which is part of
a Harry Potter display. What does Harry Potter have to do with Christmas?

To its credit Macy's also has a traditional display of Miracle on 34th Street
along with Santa and his reindeer with good old Rudolph, his nose glowing bright.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but is this what people really think Christmas
is all about?
