Aqualis Grill by Andrea Strong

Aqualis is a sweet little place, a labor of love owned by the former manager of Zanzibar, Gorian (Arnie) Papa. He's decorated it in bistro style with exposed brick walls, long sets of banquettes on smooth wood floors, with warm amber lighting. In the kitchen, he's installed Greek-American chef John Tsakinas. more

Heading to the subway, on my way to Coney Island to meet my good friend Christopher, I passed a shop that had been "Coming Soon" for the past few weeks. Today—open! And it's great news, too, for anyone looking for a creative gift, a rare book, some decent vinyl , or some especially fabulous furniture. more

Prime Meats by Andrea Strong
August 16, 2009, 4:19.53 pm ET

The Franks (Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli, that is) are slowly becoming the mayors of Brooklyn’s Court Street. First, they seduced the neighborhood with their hip and homey version of Italian fare at Frankie’s 457. Since then they’ve been hard at work (growing their beards) and expanding their empire on Court Street to include an artisan coffee salon, and an old school steakhouse called Prime Meats. more

Sazon is definitely worth the price of admission. This new Tribeca hot spot on Reade Street is bold, brash and lots of fun. more

Mina by Pamela Grossman

A friend of a friend of mine, Bobby Grossman (no relation!), has an exhibit up at Mina, which serves as both a gallery and a couture shop. (Sounds a little wacky, maybe, but it works.) His portraits of rockers, visual artists, and others from New York's punk and New Wave heyday sounded right up my alley, so I went to take a look. more

Every now and then you need to splurge; to share in life's indulgences. It's in those instances that you might want to consider the extravagance of Sho Shaun Hergatt, a new restaurant at the Setai Hotel in the Financial District. more

DBGB by Andrea Strong

Let’s get this out of the way right at the beginning: the burgers are not the thing at DBGB. Perhaps you’ve heard otherwise since there are three signature burgers at Daniel Boulud’s latest restaurant, a sprawling brewpub on the Bowery... more

What to do with the wacky weather? Heading down Columbus Avenue after dinner, Ivy and I spotted a Kangol shop. Aha! The British company, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, is iconic in the hat world. With sun hats, rain hats, and lots of hats in between, it's got you covered. more
