Santacon is an annual New York City event where mostly young people dressed as Santa roam the streets in search of holiday cheer. In past years, some Santas have given the event a bad rap. But it still remains one of the most sought after days of the year, similar to the Halloween Parade in the Village and the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. Just some whacky New York-style fun.
Santacon has also developed an app of places where these mischievous bands of holiday santas, elfs and reindeer are welcome and hopefully stay out of trouble. The full list of venues and starting point is released the night before the event.
This year's Santacon will kick off in Midtown from 10m to 8pm. In preparation, the MTA says it will ban the consumption of alcohol on Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road trains during SantaCon. The ban will be in effect beginning 4 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, through 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10.
