Fresco by Scotto

Fresco by Scotto has managed to turn its outdoor scaffolding into a lush garden for some curbside dining that’s getting plenty of Midtown attention. The menu includes eggplant & zucchini pie with ricotta and homemade mozzarella, along with a salad of shaved raw artichoke with celery heart & crimini mushrooms. Pastas bring rigatoni bolognese with a veal & chicken ragu, and tomato cavatelli with sausage, fennel and rapini in a white wine butter sauce. Entrees include double cut rack of lamb chops, whole roasted branzino, and a bone-in ribeye with grilled bone marrow. 34 East 52nd St (212) 935-3434

Monte’s Trattoria

Who would have thought old school Italian could be such a magnet. Monte’s on MacDougal Street has been around for more than 100 years and diners are still eating up the laid back atmosphere that makes you feel like family. Aside from the friendly atmosphere, Chef-Owner Pietro Mosconi is cooking up Italian classics like prosciutto & melon, stuffed mushrooms and clams oreganata to start. Larger plates include house-made lasagna, chicken parmigiana, veal marsala and spaghetti & meatballs. 97 MacDougal St (212) 674-9456

Sant Ambroeus

Sant Ambroeus in SoHo had emerged twice as large after the pandemic by taking over a nearby storefront. While it’s considered a mini-chain, it still boasts a loyal following for its laid back atmosphere and Italian bites, including homemade rigatoni with spicy tomato sauce, linguine alla vongole with New Zealand clams, and a traditional veal chop Milanese. There are also curated wines and nice dessert selection. It’s also a great place to drop in for an espresso and some people watcging. 265 Lafayette St (212) 966-2770
