78th Annual Tony Award Nominations Are Announced

Nominations have been announced for the 78th Annual Tony Awards, which will take place at Radio City Music Hall at 8pm on Sunday, June 8 and which will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount. Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo will host the broadcast.

On the musical side, “Buena Vista Social Club,” “Death Becomes Her,” and “Maybe Happy Ending” led the pack with 10 Tony Award nominations. Top play nominees included “John Proctor is the Villain” and “The Hills of California” with seven nominations, followed by “Purpose” with six nominations.

Nearly 50 actors were nominated in a variety of categories including Natalia Venetia Belcon, Danny Burstein, George Clooney, Darren Criss, Laura Donnelly, Andrew Durand, Cole Escola, Mia Farrow, Tom Francis, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Hecht, Jon Michael Hill, Megan Hilty, James Monroe Iglehart, Jeremy Jordan, Daniel Dae Kim, Harry Lennix, Louis McCartney, Audra McDonald, Bob Odenkirk, Jasmine Amy Rogers, Nicole Scherzinger, Sarah Snook, Jennifer Simard, Joy Woods, and Kara Young.

In addition, special awards will go to the musicians of “Buena Vista Social Club” and the illusion and technical effects team of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” Finaly, Harvey Fierstein will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Celia Keenan-Bolger will receive the Isabelle Stevenson Award, and the 2025 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre will be presented to Great Performances, Michael Price, New 42, and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
