The winners have been announced for the 48th Annual Vivian Robinson Audelco Recognition Awards, which honors the best in New York City African-American theater for the 2019-2020 season.
Plays and musicals that received top honors included “One in Two,” “Reparations,” “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/ When the Rainbow is Enuf” and “The Dark Star from Harlem: The Rise of Josephine Baker.”
Acting honors went to numerous performers including Joshua Henry (“The Wrong Man”), Liza Colon-Zayas (“Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven”), Douglas Wade (“Thurgood”), Rosalind Brown (“Leaving the Blues”), Kamal Bolden (“Reparations”), Teagle F. Bougere (“The New Englanders”), James A. Pearce III (“The Dark Star From Harlem”) and Iris Baumier (“The Dark Star From Harlem”).
In addition, special awards were presented to Blair Underwood, Vivian Reed, Andre DeShields, Kara Young, Vinnie Burrows, Robert Hooks, Oz Scott, Tina Fabrique and Voza Rivers.
