12 Days of Oysters for Christmas. Beginning on December 12, Isla & Co. with locations in Manhattan and Williamsburg, will offer guests 12 East Coast oysters plus a specialty or classic cocktail like a Margarita or an Old Fashioned for $12. This seasonal winter special offer will be available at all Isla & Co. locations from opening until 6pm, Monday-Sunday, while supplies last. To redeem the offer, guests can book their table via Resy.

On Sunday, December 11th from 6pm to 9pm at Ellington on Broadway (2745 Broadway) is hostings a special performance of Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite curated by his granddaughter, Mercedes Ellington. The show will be performed by renowned pianist and composer, Frank Owens, and will feature tap and belly dancers. In honor of the holiday season, Keki Modern Cakes, America’s first traditional Japanese jiggly castella or “bouncy” cheesecake, is bringing its signature Japanese cakes to Long Island at Nomiya at the SIMON Roosevelt Field Mall. The cakes are said to be a symbol of prosperity for the upcoming year and serve 4-6 people. They can be purchased frozen or by the slice at Nomiya.

Hunting for last-minute gifts, Brooklyn Flea is hosting DUMBO Artists + Flea Crafting Fun this Saturday, December 10th at 80 Pearl Street. Shop The Studios is a collaboration between the DUMBO Improvement District and Art in DUMBO—in partnership with the Holiday Market under the Archway. Drop by for a map to 35 open studioswhere you'll be able to meet the artists and shop their work.

The Ice Theatre of New York will be taking part in the 2022 Winter Holiday Skating Celebration and Tree Lighting at The Rink at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park on December 10 at 4pm. The program will feature performances by ITNY, Riverbank Figure Skating Club, Figure Skating in Harlem, the Sky Rink All Stars and guest performers. At the end of the event, Santa will make an appearance and the tree is lit.

On Saturday, December 17th from 12:00-6:00 PM, Carib Biz Network (CBN) is teaming up with Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace, to host the 2nd annual Island Jingle Holiday Marketplace at Essex Market. Island Jingle will highlight more than 20 Caribbean vendors. Attendees will also enjoy live steel pan music and entertainment along with free gift giveaways from a number of Caribbean brands.

Great Jones' Distilling Co. (686 Broadway) launched its Winter Pop-Up with a nod to the Prohibition Era with sultry burlesque and boozy cocktails, as well as a visit by Ashanti who performed a medley of her greatest hits along with her new single, Falling For You.

Forget winter. Enjoy the flavors of summer at Essex Pearl which is serving up two spins on lobster rolls each priced at $28 and packed with sweet tender Maine lobster. The Vietnamese Lobster Roll is topped with Cilantro Nước Chấm and Fried Shallots and the signature Essex Pearl Lobster Roll features Herb chimichurri and pickled red chili.

The magic of mushrooms. Chelsea Market is partnering with the Museum of Food and Drink to bring a four-part educational series to the Market that explores indigenous foodways. On Monday, December 12 at 7:00 PM, the focus is called “Using Fungi to Re-Design the Urban Food Chain” from foraging to composting with an evening of mushroom education, food, and music. Tickets are $45; 7-9 pm.


Plaka Taverna, a landmark on the corner of 86th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn's Bay Ridge neighborhood, has closed after 25 years. It was best known for its juicy Shish Kebab and Gyro sandwiches, along with specialties like Grilled Octopus and Quail if you knew to ask. A note left in the window reading, "It was truly a pleasure to serve you," signed Vicky and the guys.
