With its Grand Slam return to New York City for the U.S. Open, Carnegie Deli will be serving up its signature pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, cheesecake, and more in the U.S. Open's Food Village from August 19th through September 8th. The U.S. Open isn't just about world-class tennis, it's a celebration of New York's vibrant culture, and that includes its legendary food scene. Carnegie Deli will also be participating in the 'Flavors of the Open' on August 22nd, where fans can hit the courts with tennis stars Juan Martín del Potro, Gabriela Sabatini, and Bethanie Mattek-Sands while enjoying premium dishes, live music, and entertainment - all for a great cause, supporting the USTA Foundation.
Everybody in the pool! Dragon Fest will be hosting its Summer Pool Party on the Street on August 24th. The one-of-a -kind event will take place on Broadway between 11th and 13th Streets in Manhattan. It will also showcase its first-ever outdoor cocktail crafting event featuring renowned bartenders. Suwincha ‘Chacha’ Singsuwan of Bangkok Supper Club will offer a mocktail - Grape Esacape – made with Chi Forest Grape flavor, bale fruit, pandan, with cream cheese float (10:30-12:30pm); Steve Schneider of Sip&Guzzle will be creating a Bitter Peach Fizz – Made with non-alcoholic Campari, citrus juice, and sparkling peach (1-3pm); and Moe Aljaff of Schmuck will create Peaches & Truffle, a sophisticated mocktail made with a blend of black truffle and Chi Forest peach flavor (3:30pm - 5:30pm). Starting August 15th and running through September 15th, Carmine’s will be supporting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation with their “Heros for Heroes” initiative, in which 20% of every hero sandwich sold will be donated to the foundation. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation helps provide mortgage-free homes to fallen first responder families with young children and builds specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. The foundation is also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness. Enjoy a classic Meatball, Chicken Parm or Sausage and Peppers hero while contributing to a great cause.

Shops of New York Film Festival will return for its second year on September 12th at Chelsea’s SVA Theater (333 W 23rd St, NYC), showcasing 15 short films. The 2024 films celebrate people and places in New York, while supporting small businesses. This year's short films include Music Inn in the West Village, Principles in Gowanus, Tiny Doll House on the UES & more. Festival attendees will enjoy craft beer provided by Brooklyn Brewery and pizza from Williamsburg Pizza. Tickets are $9.31 per person.

Schmackary’s is branching out. The popular New York City bake shop is opening its first franchise in Englewood, New Jersey at 41 West Palisade Avenue on August 22nd. Opening day festivities will include an appearance by Englewood Mayor Michael Wildes at 11am for a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new store with a 20% discount on the purchase of a dozen cookies from Noon–10pm. From 5pm-7pm, visitors will receive one free cookie each while supplies last, as well as brownie and bar tastings.

New York City Opera presents a concert production of the perennial favorite Tosca as part of the Bryant Park Picnic Performances on August 24th at 7pm. The production is in honor of the 100th anniversary of the passing of Giacomo Puccini, one of the greatest opera composers in history. Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. Performances are designed to be enjoyed casually - no tickets required - with ample seating available and free picnic blankets for audience members to borrow. 1950s-themed Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Times Square is offering special family-friendly discounts for theatregoers for ‘Kids' Night on Broadway’ on Tuesday, August 20th. On the evening of the 20th, Ellen’s will offer a free entrée from their dedicated kid’s menu for each child accompanied by an adult who purchases a regularly priced entrée and presents their show tickets. As part of Kids' Night on Broadway, kids and teens ages 18 and under can attend a participating Broadway show for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult. Participating shows include Aladdin, & Juliet, Back to the Future: The Musical, Chicago, The Great Gatsby, Hadestown, Hamilton, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hell’s Kitchen, The Lion King, MJ, Moulin Rouge! Black Seed x Minnow are continuing their bagel giveway with a delicious (and free!) pop-up on Saturday 8/17 at Hart's (506 Franklin Ave in Brooklyn) starting at 11am. At this particular pop-up, the team will be handing out open-face Black Seed poppy seed bagels topped with Minnow smoked trout, whipped ricotta, tomatoes, and chili. The pop-up is first come first serve, while supplies last.
Loulou will be celebrating International Dog Day on August 26 aimed at raising awareness for dogs that need to be rescued each year. Loulou (176 8th Ave) is pulling out all the stops (and doggie treats) with a free-to-the-public event with pet adoptions from Rescue Spot, bespoke pet portraits sponsored by Bond Vet, complimentary Barkcuterie Boards, and a furry appearance by doggie celeb Rescue advocate Charlie King (@pompomcharlie).
