Around Town - HK Dragon Boat Festival, Lobster Bash, Oyster Night, Performances, Free Espresso & more...

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, with 180 teams and more than 2,000 athletes, is expected to draw 40,000 spectators to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, NY this weekend (August 3 and 4). The tradition of Dragon Boat racing is a Chinese rite dating back more than 2300 years ago. Admission is free rain or shine.

The Fulton by Jean-Georges is hosting an end of Summer Lobster Bash on August 21 at 6:30 pm. The event includes Raw Bar stations and unlimited passed lobster bites throughout the evening. Guests can sip wine and cocktails from an open bar while enjoying waterfront views of the Brooklyn Bridge, live entertainment, and yard games. $198 pp. Reservations via Resy.

Chef Salvo Lo Castro’s CASASALVO, located at 473 Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side, is offering New Yorkers a FREE taste of espresso and croissants. The first 500 customers on both August 1 and August 2 will receive free espresso and the first 50 customers will receive a free pistachio croissant while supplies last.

Pink Taco (7 Times Square) is launching a “Summer Madness” menu as the brand celebrates its 25th Anniversary including Summer Ceviche, Beef Empanadas and Tres Leches Cake. To wash it down, there are classic summer cocktails like its Watermelon Margarita. A Late-Night Happy Hour is also being offered Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to close with $10 margs and $4 tacos.
Newly opened Hellbender in Ridgewood, Queens is hosting a collab with sister restaurant Rolo’s on Tuesday August 13th. Hellbender is helmed by Chef-Partner Yara Herrera formerly of Momofuku Ko, Xiolen, Sobre Masa. Dishes include Chilled Oysters with Aguachile Amarillo; Rolo’s Dry aged rib eye tacos with Calabrian chili butter; and Corn Ribs “War Style”

There’s a new Happy Hour in town. Take Care, a modern American bistro located in The Shelburne Sonesta Hotel New York, has launched its Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm Monday through Friday. Among the deals are $10 Flatbreads from Chef Chris D’Ambrosio’s (formerly of Bouley) including one with zucchini blossoms. Drink specials include $10 House Old Fashioneds, Margaritas and featured fresh juice cocktails, $8 select glasses of wine, and $6 select drafts.

Little Island is hosting an oyster-themed night market from July 31 to August 4 featuring freshly-shucked oysters and lobster rolls from The Real Mothershuckers, Lobster Place, Cervo’s and more. Seating is first come, first served. No tickets required. 6:30pm to 10pm.
