A little rain couldn’t stop the neighborhood from uniting for a slice-fueled showdown.

Not even gray skies could dampen spirits in Bay Ridge on May 4th, when locals turned out in force—many in Jedi and Sith robes—for the first-ever Pizza Wars. Timed to Star Wars Day, the event brought together 12 neighborhood pizzerias in a delicious battle for the best slice.

Fan-favorite spots like Firefly, Gino’s, Pizza Wagon, Elegante, Nonna's and Vesuvio's were among the contenders along 3rd and 5th Avenues, each slinging their signature cheese slices to hungry fans. For $36, guests got a slice from every participating shop—equaling a full pie by day’s end—plus a branded tote for the first 300 attendees.

Chrisie Canny of the Merchants of 3rd Avenue summed up the spirit of the day: “My job is to bring attention to our beautiful neighborhood and see how great Bay Ridge is,” she said. “What’s been great about the pizzerias is they saw it as a community event, not about winning.”

This was more than a food crawl. It was a celebration of one of New York’s most beloved pizza neighborhoods.
