Bica Brings Brazilian Flavors to Midtown

Bica, an all-day cafe with Brazilian and Portuguese influences, is opening n Midtown. Co-owners Carlos and Victor Pedro, sons of famed restaurateur Alfredo Pedro, are returning to Midtown where their father originally opened the doors to Ipanema, a restaurant that was located ten blocks north in Little Brazil back in 1979. Bica is opening next to what will soon be Ipanema's new home set to open this summer.

The menu at Bica features house-made pastries from chef Alejandra Nicolon [previously of Eleven Madison Park and Per Se], while executive chef Giancarlo Junyent [previously of Tom Colicchio's Temple Court and Berimbau Brazilian Kitchen] offers a breakfast and lunch menu highlighting traditional Brazilian and Portuguese foods.

Pastries include Pão de Queijo, cheese bread made with yucca; Pastel De Nata, rich Portuguese egg custard tarts; Bolinhos, donuts with chocolate ganache; and Brigadeiro, Brazilian chocolate truffles. Small bites are also being offered, such as Coxinha, chicken croquettes with aioli; Bolinho de Bacalhau, salt cod and potato croquettes with aioli; Pasteis, deep-fried empanadas; along with salads, hot bowls, and sandwiches. Bica is also offering fresh-squeezed juices, coffee and teas.
