Brittney Johnson will make Broadway history as she becomes the first African American actress to take on the principal role of Glinda in the blockbuster Broadway musical “Wicked” on Monday, February 14.
Johnson is currently the standby for the role. She has been seen on Broadway with the original Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth, in “For the Girls,” and she has also appeared in “Beautiful,” “Les Miserables” and “Sunset Boulevard.”
Based on the book by Gregory Maguire, “Wicked” tells the back-story of Elphaba, who becomes Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West, and her complex friendship with the more popular Glinda.
The show, which debuted in 2003, is directed by Joe Mantello and features a book by Winnie Holzman, a score by Stephen Schwartz, and choreography by Wayne Cilento.
