For decades, the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn was a relatively unchanging Polish-immigrant enclave. But in the past few years, upheaval has come fast—first the artists arrived, and recently, somewhat astonishingly, luxury condos have cropped up all over. ($500 K for a small apartment in a neighborhood where the local subway line never enters Manhattan? Apparently, yes. And no, generally speaking, neither the long-standing neighborhood residents nor the more recent artist arrivals can afford to buy.) more
