Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, along with author Zadie Smith and producer Jeanne Donovan Fisher, will be honored for their artistic achievements and philanthropic contributions at BAM’s Virtual Gala, which will take place on Wednesday, May 13 at 8pm on BAM.org. The event is open to public viewing.
The gala will include performances by St. Vincent, Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and dancer Julie Anne Stanzak. There will also be a living room dance party with house music by DJ Eli Escobar and the annual BAM Art Auction.
Blanchett appeared at BAM in acclaimed productions of “Hedda Gabler” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.” Her New York stage credits also include “The Proposal” and “Uncle Vanya.” She is a six-time Oscar nominee, with wins for her performances in “The Aviator” and “Blue Jasmine.” She is currently receiving rave reviews for her performance as Phyliss Schalfly in the television miniseries “Mrs. America.”
As previously reported, BAM’s cancellation of its spring season has had a major effect on the institution’s finances. The event directly supports BAM’s commitment to its wide scope of adventurous programming and viewers are invited to make contributions throughout the evening.
