From bars that open onto the street to margaritas and mezcal-fueled drinks to go, New Yorkers are getting their first taste of Cinco de Mayo during a pandemic. At Anejo (668 10th Ave; (212) 920-4770), in Hell's Kitchen, margaritas are sold in plastic containers; $19-$20 for the 16 oz, $36-$38 for a 36 oz drink. Vistors can also walk away with plastic shaker filled with the festive cocktail for $20. The drinks are offered with a bag of chips and choice of four types of salsa.
In Flatiron, Flats Fix (14 East 23rd St; (212) 353-2400), a popular Mexican restaurant and tequila bar, a full drink menu is being offered along with limited menu items. Drinks include the Mayan Mule with anejo, fresh lime and ginger beer, and the Paloma with tequila, grapefruit soda and lime juice. The restaurant also offers Mexican beer. On the food side, look for an assortment of burritos, tacos and quesadillas.
