In our quest for the best cocktails in New York City, we head to The Molly Pitcher Club (675b 9th Ave), a new 1920s style speakeasy in Hell’s Kitchen evoking the era of prohibition and Flapper Girls. Here you will also find sexy, well-thought-out cocktails. Beverage Director Christopher Lockwood, formerly of The Polynesian, is the force behind the bar where his “Shark Week” tiki-style drink is proving to be quite the hit.
The drink which arrives in a neat shark shaped glass (which you can’t take home) is made with a special rum blend, Amontillado sherry, soursop, coconut, orgeat, nutmeg and citrus. It’s served over finely crushed ice from the opening of the shark’s mouth with a cherry and lime slice to garnish. Chris uses cherry juice to resemble blood dripping from the shark’s mouth and voila – Shark Week – which is killer. It’s fruity, but not overly sweet and packs a punch.
Other cocktails include Curry Row made with curry spiced rum blend, chai, carrot, and lemon (*Served with a side of curried peanuts), and Cellar Door with black pepper mezcal, Amaro Montenegro, prickly pear, lavender, and lime. Give them a try.
