Dean & Deluca announces temporary closing of flagship SoHo store
October 1, 2019, 11:47.32 pm ET
Dean & DeLuca has gone dark. The once beloved gourmet shop once known for it gourmet foods, high-end chocolates and marble coffee bar has closed its flagship sore in SoHo. This is the third and final New York location in a matter of weeks.
First it was its risky gamble on Dean & DeLuca Stage, which never took off and failed rather quickly, followed by its Times Square location across from Port Authority. Separately, an uptown location has already been replaced with a new market.
In the window of the SoHo store a sign reads reads: “It is with deep regret that we announce the temporary closing of this location and will reopen soon. We have been [a] proud part of this neighborhood and building for over 30 years. For all of the Dean & DeLuca team, we thank you for all the years of support you have given us.” Above the letter, in what appears to be red lipstic were the words "SO SAD!"
It’s hard to believe a comeback is in the cards anytime soon as Dean & DeLuca deals with mounting debt, shelves that have been stripped bare, and for now, a store that once led the pack, pulled from that pack.
