Fedora Reopens With Le Rock Vet in the Kitchen

By the time you slip into one of the 40 seats at the new Fedora, it’s clear: the West Village classic is back, but this isn’t just a nostalgia trip. Under the stewardship of the St. Jardim team—Andrew Dete, Christa Alexander, and wine director Basile Al Mileik (The Four Horsemen, Wythe Hotel)—Fedora has reemerged with an eye toward its storied past and a menu very much rooted in the present.

Located at 239 West 4th Street at West 10th, the revived space still flaunts its iconic neon signage and landmarked bar—both lovingly restored by the Post Company (the design firm behind Café Zaffiri and Raf’s). But the real buzz is coming from the kitchen, where Executive Chef Monty Forrest (formerly of Le Rock and the Wythe Hotel) is turning out elegant, Europe-meets-New-York dishes that lean French and Italian without feeling stuck in either.

The opening menu reads like a spring dinner party you actually want to be invited to: asparagus tempura, grilled squid with quail eggs, pierogies with spring peas, and spaghetti with clams and oregano. Larger plates like chicken cordon bleu and roasted culotte of beef feel both timeless and refreshed, while desserts like coconut rice pudding with a chocolate shell offer a nod to comfort without cliché.
At the bar, expect a tight lineup of timeless cocktails from Ben Finkelstein (Martini, Negroni, Manhattan, plus the mezcal-forward Doña Rosa) and a wine list that’s long on natural, low-intervention varieties, with more than 300 bottles and a generous by-the-glass selection curated by wine director Basile Al Mileik.
Fedora is now open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but a RESY res might be the right move.
