First Look Inside The Dumpling Xi near Union Square

Our cameras went behind the scenes at Dumpling Xi, where dumplings are made to order and sauces are a build-your-own art form. Now open at 71 4th Avenue, this fast-casual import from China brings piping-hot dumplings served straight from the kitchen. We watched as delicate wrappers were filled and folded by hand (sometimes one-handed), a visual testament to the brand’s devotion to freshness.
On the menu: Shrimp Fish Roe Pork Dumplings, Zucchini Egg with Dried Shrimp, and Celery Pork—each available boiled or fried. Fans of spice should head straight for the Red Chili Oil Dumplings or build their own dipping sauce at the condiment bar, stocked with everything from sesame oil to raw garlic. There’s more to explore, including Braised Neck Bone Pots and silky Hot Pots, plus sweet finishes like Red Bean Soup with sticky rice balls.
