Gabriel's Bar and Restaurant returns to Central Park South
July 24, 2021, 6:14.20 pm ET
Gabriel’s Bar and Restaurant, a fixture in Midtown for more than 30 years, is known for its hospitality and pastas made in-house from scratch. At its new location just steps away from Central Park, visitors can dine outdoors café style or in a more formal indoor setting, with plush green banquettes and white linen tablecloths.
The food celebrates the flavors of Northern Italy with dishes like a rainbow baby beets with figs, hazelnuts, orange and ricotta cheese, and Tartara di Tonno with diced yellow fin tuna, avocado mousse, stracciatella cheese, pomegranate, pistachio and lemon dressing. A half dozen pastas are offered at any given time. They include Gnocchi Sorrentina served in a tomato-basil sauce with fresh mozzarella, Ravioli Zucca filled with roasted butternut squash in a sauce of brown butter and sage, and Linguine alle Vongole with Manilla clams, white wine and pepperoncino flakes.

Main courses include Barolo-braised short ribs with creamy parmesan polenta, grilled yellow fin tuna with spinach and horseradish, and prosciutto-wrapped sea scallops. All of the desserts and uniquely flavored gelatos are made in-house.
Northern Italy also shines through on the wine list with Tuscany, Piedmont, Umbria, Puglia and Campania among the regions represented along with "new world" varieties. Many are available by glass, as well as bottle. Cocktails include a classic Hemingway Daiquiri, Central Park Fizz and Espresso Martini.
Gabriel’s Bar and Restaurant is located at 40 Central Park South, New York, NY (212) 956-4600
