L’Alliance New York (22 East 60th Street) will present “Covering the New Yorker” an exhibition celebrating the iconic magazine’s covers curated by The New Yorker’s art editor, Françoise Mouly. It will be on view from January 21 through March 30, coinciding with L’Alliance’s inaugural Comic Arts Festival.

The exhibition, which coincides with the magazine’s 100th anniversary, features close to 100 original works by renowned artists including Saul Steinberg, Maira Kalman, Barry Blitt, Art Spiegelman, Malika Favre, Chris Ware, Elizabeth Colomba, David Hockney, and Roz Chast.

The exhibition is organized thematically. The “Current Events” section invites visitors to walk through some of the most important and historic events of the recent decades, including the Monica Lewinsky scandal, 9/11, the second Gulf War, the death of Bin Laden, Brexit, the Paris terrorist attacks, the COVID-19 pandemic, the death of George Floyd, the recent election and many more. Another section celebrates the unique quirks of life in the Big City, featuring stunning images of the Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn brownstones, and life in the subway. A third section reflects the magazine’s engagement with culture, reading, music and the arts, all set to the rhythms of everyday life.
