Laila, known for its Syrian delicacies, now has a second location in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn on the corner of 86th Street and 3rd Avenue. The original is based on Staten Island.

The menu begins with dips like baba ghanouj; Syrian hummus served with sauteed meat; muhamara made with crushed red peppers, walnuts and pomegranate molasses; and kibbeh nayeh, a type of steak tartare made with burgul wheat. Hot appetizers bring toshkah, pita bread stuffed with ground meat, tomato and cheese; fried cauliflower drizzled with tahini and pomegranate molassas; as well as tradition meat, spinach and cheese pies.

Entrees include assorted shawarma and kebabs, lamb chops, grilled quail and more. From “Grandma’s Kitchen” come dishes like Kibbeh Labanieh, kibbeh balls cooked in a yogurt sauce with rice; Stuffed Grape Leaves with spiced lamb, garlic and lemon broth; Fattet Makdous, eggplant stuffed with ground meat over yogurt garlic sauce; and Tajik Samak, grilled fish filet over vermicelli noodles.

Wisteria blossoms dangle overhead in this charming space with exposed brick with brass accents, and a full bar. Laila is located at 8530 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. For more information, visit lailarestaurant.com
