Lobel’s of New York, the city’s legendary family-run butcher shop, has launched its first-ever restaurant: Lobel’s Original, now open at Rockefeller Center. Located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza (Rink Level), the 50-seat spot blends classic deli culture with art deco design, offering a menu centered around premium, slow-roasted meats served sandwich-style with a side of au jus.

The Lobel family’s legacy dates back to 1840s Austria, where patriarch Nathan Lobel was a cattle rancher. His grandson Morris opened the first U.S. shop in the Bronx in the early 1900s. By 1954, the family had moved operations to the Upper East Side, where Lobel’s of New York became known for its USDA Prime cuts. Today, fifth and sixth-generation members—including Evan, David, Mark, Brian, Joey, and Michael—carry on the tradition while expanding into new territory.

At Lobel’s Original, each sandwich is made with meat seasoned in-house, tied by hand, and roasted for nearly five hours. Options include the Prime Steak Sandwich, Roasted Pork with Berkshire pork, and Turkey Breast from upstate New York—all topped with picante provolone and served on a sesame bastone from Nicosia’s Bakery in the Bronx. A Broccoli Rabe version with chili, garlic, and long hot peppers—dubbed “The Works”—can be added to any sandwich. Sides include a chopped vegetable salad, pesto pasta salad, and minestrone soup, with desserts like banana pudding and brown butter chocolate chip cookies.

Breakfast sandwiches are available all day on toasted brioche, including a B.E.C. with double-cut hardwood smoked bacon and a P.E.C. with sweet peppers and caramelized onions. Drinks include classic cocktails like a Proper Manhattan and Espresso Martini, local beers from Grimm and 5 Boroughs, approachable wines, and non-alcoholic options like Bero and teas.

Lobel’s Original is open Monday–Friday from 7AM–7PM and weekends from 9AM–7PM, with RFID self-checkout and reservations via Toast. Designed by Dolan Design Group, the space features caramel-hued banquettes, checkered floors, and framed family photos.
