The spirit of Greece has arrived in Tribeca. Marathi is a Greek restaurant by Executive Chef Nicolas Poulmentis (Akrotiri, Kellari Taverna) and restaurateur Andreas Koutsoudakis. Together they have transformed this breezy corner in Tribeca into a bright airy space with white-washed brick, orange cushioned banquettes and gilded dome lighting.

The restaurant is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on weekends. On the menu there are plates for sharing like Spicy Feta, Shrimp Loukoumades (tempura shrimp with spicy aioli), and Spanakopita (baby spinach, feta, dill and homemade phyllo). There are Cretan Snails, skillet seared with bell pepper and caramelized onions, and Octopus with black-eyed peas and fresh herbs.

Pasta dishes include Squid Ink Fettuccine with pan-seared scallops and saffron emulsion, Mushroom Risotto, and Lobster Pasta with fresh tomato sauce and an ouzo flambé.  Fish is prepared simply like Banzino La Plancha with snow peas and cherry tomato and Tuna grilled with harissa yogurt and sea beans. There is Cretan-styled roast pork with volvi caramelized onions, grilled lamb chops and a 21 oz pork chop with traditional Cretan seasonings.

Greek wines dominate as cocktails also pay tribute to Crete like Halara (Mount Gay Black Barrel, angostura, fig, cretan honey, lime) and the Marathi (Stray Dog Gin, Ouzo, Blue Curacao, Blanc Vermouth, lemon, elderflower espuma). The restaurant likes to say, "As the sun sets the lights get softer, the music gets harder, and the true meaning of Greek hospitality shines through." Opa!

Marathi is located at 200 Church Street, New York, NY (212) 227-5100
