Maybe Happy Ending Leads Tony Award Winners

Winners have been announced for the 78th Annual Tony Awards, hosted by Cynthia Erivo and presented at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 8.
“Maybe Happy Ending,” took home six awards, including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical for Darren Criss, Best Director of a Musical for Michael Arden, Best Book and Score for Hue Park and Will Aronson, and Best Scenic Design.

Other musical winners included “Sunset Blvd,” which took home awards for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical for Nicole Scherzinger, and Best Lighting Design. Best Supporting Actor in a Musical went to “Operation Mincemeat” star Jak Malone; “Death Becomes Her” won Best Costume Design for Paul Tazewell; and “Buena Vista Social Club" took home four awards, including Best Choreography and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Natalia Venetia Belcon.

On the dramatic side, “Purpose” won the Tony Award for Best Play, as well for Best Featured Actress Kara Young. “Oh, Mary!” earned awards for star Cole Escola and director Sam Pinkleton; “Eureka Day” was named Best Revival of Play. Sarah Snook won “Best Actress in a Play” for “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” which also won Best Costume Design. Francis Jue was named Best Featured Actor for “Yellow Face.” Finally, “Stranger Things; The First Shadow,” won Tony Award for Best Sound Design, Best Scenic Design, and Best Lighting Design.
Presenters for the evening included Darren Criss, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Aaron Tveit, Adam Lambert, Alex Winter, Ariana DeBose, Allison Janney, Ben Stiller, Bryan Cranston, Carrie Preston, Charli D’Amelio, Danielle Brooks, Jean Smart, Jesse Eisenberg, Katie Holmes, Keanu Reeves, Kelli O’Hara, Kristin Chenoweth, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Lea Michele, Lea Salonga, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Michelle Williams, Oprah Winfrey, Rachel Bay Jones, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Samuel L. Jackson, Sara Bareilles, Cecily Strong, and Sarah Paulson.
In addition, the evening included performances from 11 Broadway musicals, a special 10th anniversary presentation from the Broadway musical “Hamilton,” and a special appearance by the 2019 Tony Honor recipient, Broadway Inspirational Voices.
