Taco Mahal, the West Village cult eatery known for selling its Chicken Tikka Masala Naan Tacos from a converted newsstand, is branching out to Hell’s Kitchen.
The “Latindia” hybrid is now open on 9th Avenue (between 45th and 46th), launched by second-generation restaurateur Danikkah Josan.
The new location is introducing pani puri, a street snack well known in India that is now finding its place stateside. Often sold in kiosks, these bitesize Indian poppers consist of a crisp, hollow bread filled with tamarind-flavored water and chickpeas, potato, coriander, onion, and masala. Tandoori Chicken Wings, Chips & Chutney, Masala Fries, and Mango Lassi round out the signature menu options.
This summer, Josan will also be opening Manhattan’s first ever Kulfi shop, selling traditional Indian no-churn ice cream.
