NYC Restaurants allowed to add 10% surcharge to bill

New York City Council has approved a 10 percent COVID-19 Recovery Charge. The additional fee is aimed at helping struggling NYC restaurants through the pandemic. The menu and bill must also clearly disclose the new charge. The surcharge would be permitted for 90 days after full indoor dining is once again permitted.
INDOOR DINING TO RETURN TO NYC SEPT 30TH - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Restaurants are slated to begin offering indoor dining at 25 percent starting on September 30th. The Governor is expected to announce whether 50 percent capacity is doable sometime in October. The law was sponsored by nine City Council members. Even before the pandemic, some restaurants were calling for the surcharge to help offset soaring rents and higher salaries. The question now is how will diners respond?
