Nai, the ambitious Spanish tapas restaurant from Galicia-born chef and restaurateur Ruben Rodriguez, is now open in the East Village in a chic bi-level space with dramatic dark-colored walls and intimate pockets of banquette seating throughout.
Nai’s menu showcases Spanish-inspired tapas that pay tribute to Rodriguez’s Galician heritage (Nai means “mom” in Galician) with dishes such as Mejillones, mussel escabeche with potato chip and lemon mayo; Mushroom Carpaccio with truffle oil, marcona almonds and manchego cheese; Rabo, Oxtail with carrot ginger puree and veal demi-glace; and Zanahoria, carrots with greek yogurt, sunflower tahini, harissa and honey; among others.
Beverage director Niko Hagerty offers a menu of wine and sherry-based cocktails such as El Gallego Loco made with braised oxtail washed vermouth, habanero shrub, and cardamom bitters; and Parts Unknown with Junmai Kurosawa sake, soju, and toasted black sesame.
Nai is located 84 2nd Ave, New York, NY.
