Fun, vibrant and a little outlandish is how you might describe Natalie Freihon’s new restaurant, Nat’s on Bleecker. From the bold diamond-designed floors to oversized eyelashes reaching toward the ceiling, the playful space is a sight to behold.
Freihon, who also operates Nat’s on Bank and The Orchard Townhouse, says she is driven by neighborhoods when identifying spaces. “I live in Greenwich Village and know the community here quite well so we knew this was where we wanted to be,” said Freihon, “We love to create spaces where we cater to those that can walk here, come in for a burger or celebrate a special occasion, sort of like your very own Cheers.“
The design is inspired by both Dadaism and Art Deco. Freihon says she also loves the ‘80s and anything kitschy and fun with bright patterns that are over the top. That comes through loud and clear with the design of the space that employs bold greens, purples and blues blended with wood elements.
The food is just as stylish drawing on nostalgia with a menu that leans French. Think fondue, braised leeks, watercress soup, steak Diane, clam pasta, and bananas foster. The cocktails are also inspired by kitschy throwbacks, like a frozen mudslide and a drink made with cherry coke syrup, which Freihon calls a guilty pleasure.
Looking ahead, Freihon is planning another venture in 2023, Nat’s Mountain House in Tannersville, New York on the same road as Hunter Mountain. Stay tuned.
Nat’s on Bleecker is located at 170 Bleecker St, NYC (347) 897-5343
