Many folks can’t travel to Madrid right now, but they can experience its culinary flavors at Oliva Tapas Espanolas in Manhattanville.
Chef Franklin Becker’s menu includes such delicacies as Alcachofas Con Migas y Boquerones (artichokes with spring garlic bread crumble and white anchovy), Gambas al Ajillo (Iberian garlic shrimp), Soccarat Vegetal por dos Personas (crispy rice with roasted vegetables); and Pollo con Salsa de Pimientos y Almendras Marcona (chicken with red pepper sauce and Marcona almonds). For dessert there’s Churros Originale with sugar and chocolate as well as Crema Catalana, the original crème Brûlée.
A special nightly happy hour from 5pm until 6:30pm, Oliva’s Hora Feliz features a savory selection of tapas, including Jamón Serrano, Queso, Membrillo y Almendras (Serrano ham, cheese, quince, and almonds), Caballa Escabeche (pickled mackerel), and Chorizo al Vino (chorizo cooked in red wine), all priced at $9. Iberian libations, also $9, include Oliva Sangria made from rosé, Blanco Tequila, Rockey’s Liqueur, and Bruto Americano; the Manzana Spritz, a refreshing combination of sparkling cider, apple vermouth, Rockey’s Liqueur, and NY Pommeau; and the Spanish Gin & Tonic featuring Mahón gin.
