STARS SET TO RETURN TO NYC’S STAGES

Additional casting has been announced for the Broadway return of “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” which will reopen at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street) on Friday, October 8. Joining Tony Award nominee Adrienne Warren in the title role will be Daniel J. Watts as Ike, Dawnn Lewis as Zelma, Myra Lucretia Taylor as Gran Georgeanna and Jessica Rush as Rhonda.

Over at “Waitress,” which returns for a limited engagement on September 2 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, Grammy Award-winning composer and star Sara Bareilles will be joined by Eric Anderson (Cal) Charity Angel Dawson (Becky), Christopher Fitzgerald (Ogie), Drew Gehling (Dr. Pomatter), Caitlin Houlahan (Dawn), Dakin Matthews (Joe) and Joe Tippett (Earl).

Moving to Off-Broadway, full casting has been announced for Douglas Carter Beane’s newest play, “Fairycakes,” which makes its world premiere at the Greenwich House Theater (27 Barrow Street) beginning Thursday, October 14. The uproarious mash-up of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” and some of your favorite fairy tales will star Mo Rocca (Geppetto), Alfie Fuller (Peaseblossom), Sabatino Cruz (Pinocchio) Jackie Hoffman (Moth), Kuhoo Verma (Cinderella), Z Infante (Cobweb), Ann Harada (Musterseed), Jamen Nanthakumar (Changeling), Julie Halston (Titania/Elizabeth), Brooks Ashmanskas (Oberon/Dirk), Chris Myers (Puck) and Jason Tam (Prince/Cupid).

At Second Stage’s Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street), full casting is set for the off-Broadway production of Rajiv Joseph’s “Letters of Suresh,” which begins performances on September 14. Acclaimed actors Ali Ahn, Ramiz Monsef, Kellie Overbey and Thom Sesma will star in this award-winning work, which reveals intimate mysteries through a series of letters between strangers, friends, daughters, and lovers.

Casting has been set for Bedlam’s “Persuasion,” a new play by Sarah Rose Kearns adapted from the novel by Jane Austen, which begins its Off-Broadway run on September 11 at the Connelly Theatre (220 East 4th Street). The company will feature Sarah Rose Kearns, Rajesh Bose, Caroline Grogan, Nandita Shenoy, Jamie Smithson, Randolph Curtis Rand, Shaun Bennet Fauntleroy, Claire Hsu, Annabel Capper and Yonatan Gebeyehu.

Finally, the upcoming engagement of MCC Theater’s drama “Nollywood Dreams,” which will begin previews in-person at MCC’s Newman Mills Theater (511 West 52nd Street) on October 21, will star original cast members Abena, Charlie Hudson, III, Nana Mensah, Sandra Okuboyejom, Ade Otukoya and Emana Rachelle.
