“STOMP,” the award-winning international theatrical sensation which has been astonishing audiences for the past 26 years, at the Orpheum Theatre (126 Second Avenue) will resume performances on Tuesday, July 20. The show has won an Obie Award, Drama Desk Award and a “Legend of Off Broadway Award,” among other honors.
In “STOMP,” both household and industrial objects find new life as musical instruments in the hands of an idiosyncratic band of body percussionists. Synchronized stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra, eight Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion. In fact, the performers use everything from dustbins to tea chests, radiator hoses, boots and hub caps to fill the stage with sound and movement.
Producers will require that all cast, crew, staff and audiences entering the Orpheum Theatre show proof of vaccination prior to entry. Out of an abundance of caution, audiences will also have to be masked throughout the show’s 90-minute running time.
Tickets are currently available through www.Ticketmaster.com and at The Orpheum theatre box office.
