It’s hard to miss the hum of energy pulsing through the newly revitalized PENN DISTRICT—and now, with the arrival of The Dynamo Room, that buzz is literal. Sunday Hospitality, the team behind neighborhood-defining restaurants like Sunday in Brooklyn and Rule of Thirds, has planted a steakhouse in the heart of Midtown that doesn’t just pay homage to New York’s past—it electrifies it.

Opening in the sleek new PENN 2 tower, The Dynamo Room is a modern revival of the city’s legendary grills and oyster cellars. Think Delmonico’s roots with a 2025 edge: raw bar towers served beneath sculptural lighting by Parisian artist Vincent Leroy; buttery steaks and seared seafood arriving in a room lined with orbital steel railings, woven stone tiling and vaulted ceilings channeling Grand Central grandeur. The name? A nod to Thomas Edison’s original power source—and the restaurant hums with that same industrial grit and creative voltage.

Sunday Hospitality's co-founder Jaime Young and Head Chef/partner Derek Boccagno, formerly of Café Chelsea, anchor the menu with timeless steakhouse staples punched up by forward-thinking flavors. Look for high-impact steakhouse fare with standout starters like foie gras profiteroles and clam & leek toast. From seafood towers to caviar-topped cheddar waffles, the raw bar is pure theater. Prime cuts include a 45-day dry-aged tomahawk and Margaret River Wagyu, with luxe add-ons like lobster tail and Crab Oscar to elevate each plate.

Beverage Director Brian Evans brings a cocktail list that refuses to play second fiddle—expect boundary-pushing drinks like the saffron and pandan-laced Space Oddity to the smoky, savory Sunspot Negroni with mezcal, tomato, and hazelnut. Signature martinis like the Vesper and Rob Roy bring classic swagger, while standouts like Galaxy Surf Club and Saturn lean citrusy, nutty, and complex. The list is built to complement the steakhouse’s richness with layered, unexpected flavor profiles.

And the design? It's more than eye candy. Conceived by Evidence of Things, the space tells a layered story—from Roman bathhouse arches to atomic-age lighting—and acts as a love letter to the city's relentless reinvention. With pieces curated by KARMA and original work by Color Field legend Peter Bradley on the walls, this isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a sensory collage of what makes New York timeless, and what keeps it moving forward.

Dinner service is available Tuesday through Saturday, with breakfast and lunch coming soon. For a steakhouse that feels like a portal to both the city’s past and future, The Dynamo Room is the spark Midtown needed.
