From February 15 through April 27, 2025, the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) will host The Orchid Show: Mexican Modernism, an extraordinary celebration inspired by the bold, multicolored designs of Mexican modernist architect Luis Barragán. This 22nd edition of the beloved annual event transforms the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory into a breathtaking paradise filled with thousands of orchids and lush landscapes that echo Barragán’s signature use of vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and organic textures.

The exhibition highlights the rich biodiversity of Mexico, a country that is home to more than 1,300 species of orchids, 40 percent of which are found nowhere else on Earth. In addition to the stunning orchid displays, the show will feature succulents, such as cacti and agave, creating a dazzling fusion of flora that pays homage to Mexico’s diverse ecosystems. Visitors will have the chance to explore the role of orchids in the wild and learn about NYBG’s ongoing orchid research and conservation efforts.

Enhancing the visual splendor is a photography exhibit, Homage to Luis Barragán: An Act of Poetry, by Mexican-American visual artist Martirene Alcántara. Presented in NYBG’s Arthur and Janet Ross Gallery, the series of still images captures the essence of Barragán’s architectural legacy, weaving together light, shadow, and vibrant palettes in ways that echo the exhibition’s designs.

For an even more immersive experience, Orchid Nights invites visitors 21 and over to enjoy the “lushest bar in town” on select evenings. With live cumbia music and energetic dance parties led by DJs and professional dancers, including Bronx-born hellotones and Brooklyn-based Coolmarx, these events promise a lively celebration of traditional and contemporary Mexican influences. Orchid Nights will take place on February 15, 22; March 8, 15, 22, and 29; and April 5, 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26, offering food, drinks, and unforgettable entertainment among the vibrant floral displays.
