Miriam Opens Second Location on the Upper West Side

Popular Israeli restaurant Miriam in Park Slope is expanding to the Upper West Side. Executive Chef/Owner Rafael “Rafi” Hasid is best known for his daily Israeli brunch including Jerusalem Breakfast, served with two eggs any style, avocado salad, fresh tomatoes, pickles and tahini, and Challah French Toast, topped with halva and berries. [Fun Fact: Miriam’s has served more than 2.5 million eggs since opening 17 years ago.]
The sister restaurant will also have a full dinner menu and, unlike its Brooklyn predecessor, a full bar program once the liquor license is approved. Diners will find dishes like Braised Short Ribs, tamarind braised beef short rib, sweet potato latke over labneh and string beans, and Lamb Shawarma, under baked dough in a Terra Cotta bowl, with herbed rice, roasted tomatoes and a tahini yogurt amba sauce.
Miriam likes to say it is a celebration of Israeli cuisine that is heavily influenced by the 154 nationalities that make up Israel. The official opening is Monday, Jan 24, 2022.

Dave Bowie to be Celebrated at Sound & Vision Exhibition

The late David Bowie 75th birth year will be celebrated with “Sound & Vision,” a web-exclusive Bowie retrospective as seen through the singular lens of Mick Rock. Rock, who died last year, is often considered “The Man Who Shot the 1970s. He met Bowie in 1972 and became his official photographer for a time, shooting some of the most defining images of Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust finery. Rock also produced and directed the music videos for Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” “Jean Genie” and “John, I’m Only Dancing.”
Doors NYFW Pop-up Opens in SoHo

The doors’ month-long NYFW pop-up is now open at 27 Greene Street through February 20. It showcases 45+ designers, 10+ beauty brands and 10+ up-and-coming artists. The pop-up showcases both exciting digital and AI artists as well as artists working with traditional techniques, and fashion designers that 3D print items as well as designers that support local craftsmen and employ centuries-old traditions such as crocheting, embroidery and handknitting in their collections.

Locanda Verde, Located in Robert De Niro’s Greenwich Hotel (377 Greenwich St), is celebrating black truffle season from Umbria, Italy. Award-Winning Chef Andrew Carmellini is weaving the pricey fungus into a number of special dishes to mark the occasion. Black truffles make their presence known in Fettuccine with mushroom ragu & solo di bruna; Veal Medallions with prosciutto, celery root and spinach; and Mozzarella di Bufala “Casolare” served with wild mushroom insalata.
It can also be found in dessert. Pastry Chef Deborah Racicot is cooking up Warm Dark Chocolate “Lava” Cake with hazelnut & black truffle gelato. Of Course, you will pay a bit more, but for lovers of truffles it’s a worthy indulgence. Carmellini’s trufflepalooza ends when truffle season winds down which is usually in early March.

Everyone loves a good cocktail and Cocktail Time highlights some of the New York City's best from talented bartenders. The Yellow Brick Road is one of them. The drink is served at Daintree (25 W 38th St; 29th Fl) at Hotel Hendricks in Midtown Manhattan. Bartender Luke Maseko uses Isolation Proof barrel gin, Apalogue saffron liqueur, lemon, peach chutney syrup, and egg white.
"This cocktail is a riff on a traditional gin sour with South African influences, which is a nod to our Head Bartender’s upbringing in Pretoria. The barrel gin gives the drink a sturdy base to layer more aromatic notes of saffron, savory spices, lemon, and peach. Rooibos tea gives the cocktail a more complex tannic structure than your classic gin sour," said Daintree Beverage Director Tristan Brunel.

Bentos Expands Sushi Offerings

Japanese sushi restaurant Bentos (315 Fifth Avenue) has added to its offerings, including a variety of delicious new sushi rolls. In addition, it now serves both sushi rolls and small plates throughout the day, and not just at dinnertime.
The eatery is best loved for its “build your own” bowls, which come topped with Seaweed Salad, Edamame Salad, Cucumber Pickle, Takuan (daikon radish), Wasabi, Gari (pickled ginger, any of which can be omitted by request. However, diners can add on extra sashimi slices, vegetables and other special toppings like Ikura (salmon caviar) and Yuzu Tobiko (flying fish roe) for an additional charge. Bowls are available for take-out and in-restaurant dining.
Bentos is open Monday to Wednesday 11am-9pm, Thursday to Saturday 11am-10pm, and currently closed on Sundays.

Jack & Charlie's no.118 – a New American restaurant in the West Village from Chef/Partner Ed Cotton – is launching brunch service on Sunday, January 23.
Whether you're in the mood for something sweet or savory (or both), breakfast or lunch, healthy or indulgent... there's something for everyone on the menu. On the drinks front, you can enjoy cocktails like the Wood-Fired Bloody Mary (plum tomato, wheated vodka, Calabrian chilies); the Breakfast In Bed (sweet vermouth, marmalade, amaro, mint, lemon); and the It's All Greek To Me (gin, Greek yogurt, honey, lemon, blackberry), as well as fresh fruit mimosas.

Carlton Fine Arts LTD’ Pop Art Festival featuring Works by Koons, Warhol and Others

Carlton Fine Arts Ltd. will present its Pop Art Festival, from January 21st, the birthday of acclaimed artist Jeff Koons. The gallery will also be featuring the works by Warhol, Basquiat, Wesselmann, Mr. Brainwash, and Devon.
The gallery’s three floors will showcase a selection of the most iconic and notable works from the key pop artists including Jeff Koons’ Monkey Train from 2007 and his Orange Balloon Dog as well as Mr. Brainwash’s Chaplin Love from 2010 and Marilyn Red from 2016, Andy Warhol’s Howdy Doody from 1981, Devon’s Audrey Chanel from 2019, Tom Wesselmann Big Blonde from 1988 and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Boxer Rebellion from 1982.

Charles Ray - Figure Ground Coming to the Met

Charles Ray: Figure Ground
presents the work of one of the most important artists of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. For over five decades, Ray has experimented with a wide range of methods, including performance, photography, and sculpture, the medium for which he is best recognized today. The exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art—on view from January 31 through June 5, 2022—marks the artist’s first institutional solo exhibition in New York in almost 25 years. It is also the first to include sculptures from every period of his career and to unite them with important photographs from the 1970s, resulting in a comprehensive investigation of his oeuvre. A focused presentation featuring 19 objects and organized in close collaboration with the artist, the show introduces Charles Ray to a new generation of viewers while making his work fresh for those already familiar with it.

An Exhibition of Keith Tyson's Flowers

For over thirty years, Award-winning British artist Keith Tyson has used a variety of methods and materials to explore our reality and art’s role in representing it. On 3 February, Hauser & Wirth will present new drawings and paintings from two of Tyson’s extensive and ongoing series, with works spanning both ground floor galleries of the 22nd Street location.
The first room will include Tyson’s latest large-scale flower paintings, made mostly during social isolation. Each canvas is rendered in a different aesthetic style, with Tyson reimagining the floral still life genre through varying scientific, mathematical, and art-historical frameworks. The second room of the exhibition is devoted to the newest iterations of Tyson’s Studio Wall Drawing series, initiated in 1997. Painted on identically sized sheets of paper and displayed together in a grid-like formation, these works occupy the same overall proportions as one of the walls in the artist’s first studio. Shown together, his drawings form a poetic record of passing time, as a group they exist somewhere between a sketchbook, a journal, a poem, and a painting.

Gee’s Caribbean Restaurant Opens in Crown Heights

Gee’s Caribbean restaurant has opened its doors on Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights. The restaurant, from the Team behind Gloria’s is known for its Trinidadian specialties like oxtail stew and jerk chicken. Visitors will also discover things like curry chicken, goat or conch as well as tofu and vegetable dishes. The dishes can be ordered as a roti or platter with flavored rice and sides such as fried okra, plantains, macaroni salad and potato salad. Soups include pigtail, cow heel and seafood.

Isla will have a three course dinner special for $59.
At Dagon (2454 Broadway), Chef Ari Bokovza utilizes his Israeli heritage, and culinary prowess passed along from his Tunisian grandmother, to create this year's Restaurant Week menus. For the two-course lunch menu, priced at $29, dishes to highlight include Vegetable Soup and Flash Fried Cauliflower, Dagon Schnitzel and Chef Ari's Tunisian take on the Tuna Sandwich. Dinner, which is three courses for $59, offers two entree selections - Plancha Roasted Chatham Cod with vegetable tagine and the Dry Aged Beef Kebabs - as well as a selection of desserts such as Silan, Lemon Tart, and Labneh Cheesecake
Palo Santo (652 Union St) in Gowanus is offering pan-Latin cooking from a Brooklyn brownstone. Chef Jacques Gautier’s menu blends Latin flare with Caribbean influences. The $39 prix fixe menu includes choice of appetizer, main course and dessert. Options include Tortillas & Avocado with pickled onions, jalapeno and lime juice, Coconut Plantain Stew with coconut milk, jasmine rice, mustard greens, and green coconut as well as Cornflake Fried Chicken with hot honey. For dessert, there is Papaya Sorbet, Chocolate Pecan Bread Pudding, and Coconut Tres Leches.
Amali (115 E 60th St) Mediterranean inspired restaurant features house-made pasta, sustainably caught seafood, seasonal produce and meat from family farms. Inspired by the Mediterranean way of life, Amali’s menu from Executive Chef Alex Tubero emphasizes vegetables, olive oil, cheese, grains and fish. The menu is suitable for a variety of diets including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan. Their wine list offers approximately 400 selections. Amali will have a lunch ($39) and dinner ($59) special for NYC’s Restaurant Week.
Queensyard at Hudson Yards is offering a $39 lunch. The British restaurant is set in a picturesque location overlooking Thomas Heatherwick’s Vessel. The lunch menu include a Prawn Cocktail, Venison Tartare, Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Queensburger with Welsh cheddar, and Filet Mignon (add $25) with potato gratin, caramelized onion and black garlic puree. Sticky Toffee Pudding is counted among the desserts.
Upper West Side's French brasserie, Nice Matin (201 West 79th St), Chef Eric Starkman is offering a two-course prix-fixe lunch, priced at $39. Starters include traditional dishes with fun spins such as Escargots with potato gnocchi, peas, and bacon lardons, Shrimp Provencale with green olives, tomato sauce, and Calabrian chili, as well as a Chickpea Salad. Entrees range from Courgettes Farcies and Cacio E Pepe with bucatini, uni butter, and breadcrumbs, to Chicken Milanese and Grilled Faroe Island Salmon.

Haven Rooftop (132 W 47th St) is located high above The Sanctuary Hotel right in the heart of Times Square, near Rockefeller Center. The menu offers American style cuisine and crafted cocktails. The year-round multi-level rooftop transforms its design with each season. OSTERIA LA BAIA

A $29 lunch prix-fixe menu is also offered on Sundays at all locations, and on weekdays exclusively at their Midtown East location. (Their Restaurant Week menu is not available on Saturdays.) noreetuh, the Michelin-recognized modern Hawaiian restaurant in the East Village that features playful dishes designed by Executive Chef-Partner Chung Chow (Per Se, Lincoln Restaurant) is offering Restaurant Week diners a three-course prix fixe menu for $39 per person with an optional wine pairing for an additional $26. Highlights include: Tuna Belly Misoyaki, miso marinated tuna belly with pickles; Truffle Wontons, made with ham hock, pickled hon shimeji mushrooms, and shaved truffles; Sea Urchin Cavatelli, with shrimp and yuzu; and a one-of-a-kind Chocolate Haupia Sundae for dessert.

Emmy Award winner Debra Messing will star in the New York premiere of “Birthday Candles,” by Noah Haidle, which will run at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre from March 18 to May 29.

Rockefeller Center and Pomegranate Arts will celebrate the 85th birthday of legendary American composer and pianist Philip Glass with a night of music and festivities on The Rink. Complete Casting Set for Broadway's Mr. Saturday Night

Complete casting has been announced for “Mr. Saturday Night,” a new musical comedy about one comedian’s meteoric rise to the middle, which will begin an open-ended run at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street) on March 9, with an official opening set for April 27.
The show will be directed by John Rando, with a book by Billy Crystal, Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel and a score by Jason Robert Brown and lyrics by Amanda Green. The production will feature choreography by Ellenore Scott.
Based on the 1992 film of the same name, then musical tells the story of Buddy Young Jr (to be played by Crystal), an outrageous and outspoken comedian who found fame, if not fortune, in the early days of television. Now, some 40 years after his TV career flamed out, Buddy seeks one more shot at the spotlight, and while he’s at it, one last shot at fixing the family he fractured along the way.
The production will also feature Randy Graff, David Paymer, Chasten, Shoshana Bean, Jordan Gelber, Brian Gonzales and Mylinda Hull.

La Devozione, the newly opened Italian spot at Chelsea Market, is welcoming guest Executive Pastry Chef Angelo Tramontano of Gran Caffè Napoli 1850 for an appearance January 14th at The Oval, the restaurant’s open-air kitchen.
Beginning at 6 pm, Chef Angelo will present his dessert tribute to Italian actress, Sofia Loren, aptly named "Donna Sofia" – a Neapolitan pastry sfogliatelle with shortcrust pastry biscuit, ricotta emulsion, semolina, candied cubes, cinnamon, and orange.

David Burke Tavern to Reopen to the Public for Restaurant Week

In honor of Winter Restaurant Week 2022, David Burke Tavern, which has been closed except for private events since September, will reopen to the public on January 18 with a $59 prix fixe three-course Restaurant Week Menu. It stands out among many Restaurant Week offerings because of the number of dish choices in each category – seven appetizers, seven entrees and four desserts – and presents a bonus deal on five side dishes at $8 each and $21 for three, as opposed to the regular $12 each and $29 for the trio.
As the co-chair of the NYC & Company’s Culinary Committee, which organizes Restaurant Week, David Burke has let it be known that it is particularly important his flagship restaurant be open for its latest edition. It is a program he has enthusiastically participated in since its 1992 inception.
The private event only model for David Burke Tavern was prompted by the labor shortage that has plagued the restaurant industry during the pandemic. The moved proved prescient given solid private event bookings through the holiday season, which held up despite the Omicron surge.
Burke says he is hopeful the great values Restaurant Week offers, will encourage the public to once again embrace dining out. In addition to the Restaurant Week menu, available through February 13, David Burke Tavern will present guests with happy hour, bar and regular a la carte menu options upon reopening for service Tuesday through Saturday from 4 to 9. The King’s Cake at Dominique Ansel Is Fit for a King

Dominique Ansel is offering a classic Galette des Rois (or "King's Cake") to celebrate Epiphany, the day the Three Kings visited Baby Jesus. This traditional French cake is filled with creamy almond frangipane inside a flaky, buttery puff pastry crust (think: almond croissant in cake form!).
Fun Fact: The galettes are made with an inverse, or reverse, puff pastry crust, which means that the butter block is on the outside of the dough during the lamination process, rather than being inside the dough like a traditional puff pastry. This results in an even flakier crust with a beautifully golden, almost caramelized, texture.
Each whole galette (serves 6-8 guests) is hand-scored on top to resemble a crown and comes with its own gold paper crown and a little fève (a small prize) to hide inside the cake, so whoever finds it is deemed king for the day. (A little secret: the cake tastes even better warmed up!)

Jungsik Unveils Its New Winter Dessert

A caramel apple is the inspiration behind Michelin-starred Jungsik’s new dessert simply called, Apple. Executive Pastry Chef Yoonjung Oh (formerly of Aquavit) designed the new dessert. It’s a hot caramelized apple with dried persimmon and apple cider gel that sits atop a whole wheat sable with granola and a quenelle of Misutgaru ice cream, traditionally made with 7-10 different grains, on the side. At the East Village location [239 East 5th Street] look for the Campfire Latte, a chocolatey mocha latte topped with graham cracker crumbles and a torched marshmallow. The Chelsea [155 7th Avenue] location is featuring a Cardamom Latte made with fresh orange juice, vanilla and cardamom. In Fort Greene [78 Rockwell Pl], Miso Caramel Apple made is the flavor of choice. It’s made with fresh apple juice, sweet and savory red miso and espresso, garnished with flaky sea salt.

Yaso Offers Tips on Making Dumplings at Home

On chilly nights, dumplings are the perfect quick and delicious comfort food; NYC’s Shanghainese restaurant Yaso offers a variety of dumplings and specialty soup dumplings. Best served piping hot, the restaurant is share tips on how to best reheat dumplings and prepare frozen dumplings for a meal at home when the weather is too cold or unpleasant to trek outside.
Yaso’s soup dumplings are full of rich broth – but similar to the skill it takes to eat without losing all the goodness, they require extra attention to heating without bursting. Offering three outstanding soup flavors - Original Pork, Spicy Pork, and Chicken - they are best eaten right after heating. This means that take-out or delivery orders may benefit from a slight warm-up for ultimate enjoyment. The best method is to steam them using a steamer pot or basket with a lid, lined with parchment paper. Home chefs can cut the paper to fit, with small holes added. Alternatively, they can be heated in short increments in the microwave - but it’s important to not overdo it or they may burst; 20-second increments are best.
Steamed or boiled Jiaozi, in a choice of pork and cabbage, or chicken, offer a more traditional and equally delicious option, also available in a Sweet & Spicy sauce, with plenty of kick to warm up no matter the temperature. Sam’s Crispy Chicken
Sam’s Crispy Chicken is based off the popular offerings as a spin off from the Umami Burger menu. Those offerings include cornflake-crusted fried chicken in sandwiches, combo boxes and appetizers. The Nashville Hot Sandwich is coated with spices, dipped in chili oil and served on a toasted brioche bun with pickles and mayo. There are five sandwiches in all including a Buffalo and BBQ version. Sides include Sam’s Bacon Mac and Cheese and Loaded Waffle Fries.

Sa Mo To by Chef Morimoto is serving up Asian fare beginning with Dim Sum. Look for Crab Spring Rolls, Pork Gyoza and more. Other signature appetizers include twice-cooked Sticky Ribs, Popcorn Shrimp and Japanese-style Karaage chicken with crispy garlic. Visitors will also find noodle soups like Spicy Cloud Pork with kakuni pork, scallions, ramen noodles and spicy yuzu koshu in tonkotsu broth.
Cicci Di Carne
Cicci di Carne is in collaboration with the world’s best butcher Chef Dario Cecchini. Options include panini sandwiches like Porchetta with sweet and hot pepper mostarda, arugula and fennel pollen; Roast Beef with “Succo” dip and horseradish crema; and Smoked Pastrami Alla Dario with whole grain mustard, caraway seeds, pickles and fontina. Other options include a tuna melt and the Caprese Classico. There’s also a grilled artichoke salad with arugula.
Kripsy Rice offers a Cali-twist to its sushi. The sushi and rolls are available in combo platters or al a carte. Look for things like its Original Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Baked Crab Handroll, King Salmon Nigiri, Spicy Yellowtail, Blue Crab Roll and more. Appetizers include Ahi Tuna Tartare, Hamachi Sashimi with jalapeno and Crispy Panko Shrimp.
This is one of the few places where you can find an Umami Burger in New York City. The signature Umami Burger is a smashed double patty with dashi onions, American cheese, pickle chips and Umami sauce on a "squishy" bun. A Deluxe Burger, Truffle Burger and Bacon Ranch Burger are also among the offerings, along with Cheesy Potato Tots and Togarashi Fries.
Plant Nation is offering a selection of signature salads. They include the Avocado Toast Bowl; “Just Beet It” with slow-cooked beets, greens, feta and maple-roasted pecans; and a Spicy Thai Chicken Salad. Entrees include Whole Rotisserie Baby Cauliflower, Caramelized Savoy Cabbage Chops and Buld-Your-Own Bowls.
Mediterranean fare is the star at Soom Soom. Think chicken and beef shawarma on a pita, plate or wrap, along with kebabs and schnitzel. Vegetarian options include falafel, roasted cauliflower and sabich. There are also several options available with house hummus.
EllaMia is an elevated coffee shop serving croissants, sticky buns, monkey bread and cranberry scones. Breakfast sandwiches include a scrambled egg and cheese croissant, spicy avocado bacon bagel and bagel with cream cheese and lox. Check ahead for the opening date.
There are also two full-fledged restaurants located inside the food hall: Katsuya, a modern Japanese restaurant by Chef Katsuya Uechi serving sushi and inventive cocktails; and Casa Dani featuring the flavors of Spain by Michelin-starred Chef Dani Garcia.

Jing Fong Returns to Chinatown with a Much Smaller Footprint

Jing Fong, the sprawling 800 seat dim sum palace which closed during the pandemic, is making a comeback in a much smaller space that seats just over 100 diners. The restaurant is well known for its assortment of classic dim sum dishes, including Har Gow Shrimp Dumplings, Shrimp, Crab and Spinach Dumplings, Roast Pork Rice Noodles and BBQ Roast Pork Buns.
Larger plates include Teriyaki Short Ribs, Tangerine Beef, General Tso’s Chicken and Lobster with Sticky Rice. The new restaurant is located is located at 202 Centre Street in New York. Jing Fong’s location on the Upper West Side is also open.

Somewhere Nowhere’s rooftop at the Renaissance Hotel in Chelsea now boasts fourteen teardrop-shaped igloos with unobstructed views of the Empire State Building. Each of the igloos can accommodate 4-6 guests and are furnished with plush love seats and accent chairs, elegant winter-inspired accents, a built-in fireplace and blankets to keep warm.
A new cocktail menu is being offered featuring whimsical drinks the The Prophecy (Harry Potter) consisting of Red Bull and Watermelon flavors, Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland) with Meyers Rum and Pineapple Juice, and The Enchanted (Beauty and the Beast) with Mezcal and Angostura Bitters, among others. Bites by Noodlelove include Spicy Tuna Tartare, Roasted Chicken Lettuce Cups, Warm Lobster Rolls, and a Late-night platter featuring Dry Aged Wagyu Beef Sliders, Lobster Mac and Cheese Bites, Popcorn Chicken and Truffle Fries.
The igloos are available by reservation only for two-and-a-half hour increments starting at $800 for the food and beverage minimum, depending upon the day.

KONO is the forthcoming debut restaurant from acclaimed Japanese yakitori chef Atsushi 'ATS' Kono. After nearly two decades of honing his skills in Japan, and then in New York City as the Executive Chef of the Michelin-starred Yakitori Torishin (and, most recently, the summerlong Chikarashi Isso pop-up at Hotel 50 Bowery), ATS will finally open his namesake restaurant within Bowery's Canal Arcade, a passageway that connects Bowery to Elizabeth Street. Guests at KONO will feel as though they have been transported to Japan as they enter into the alluring dining room that blends traditional Japanese elements with modern touches that speak to New York City's dining culture. Here, Chef Kono will take center stage at a 14-seat chef's counter (seatings at 5:30pm and 8:30pm) to prepare a kappo-style yakitori omakase rooted in tradition and seasonality. Guests can expect to enjoy various cuts (and specialty cuts) of organic Amish chicken grilled over Binchotan hardwood charcoal via the multi-course menu of appetizers, skewers, seasonal vegetables, and dessert. The latest concept from Chef/Owner Julian Medina and Restaurateur Louis Skibar of Toloache Restaurant Group goes mobile with the launch of El Truck, a food truck offering authentic Mexican street food. El Truck’s simple yet satisfying menu features an assortment of tacos like the Birria (Braised Beef in Chiles with Consomme); Chicharron Prensado (Pork Braised in Chile de Arbol Salsa); and Cabeza (Steamed Veal Head), as well as the Taco de Pescado (Crispy Fish Taco with Slaw and Chipotle Crema) and the Dorados de Camaron y Pulpo (Crispy Taco with Shrimp, Octopus, and Charred Tomato Salsa), among others. Pine & Polk is a new and exciting multi-concept brand under one roof – a provisions-focused retail storefront and bespoke cocktail bar. Best friends-turned-business partners, Lindsay Weiss (American Express, James Beard Foundation) and Alyssa Golub (Michael Mina Restaurant Group, The Four Seasons) met in San Francisco where their lives and streets (Pine & Polk) would intersect. The bright and airy shop, located in downtown New York City, promises to bring California vibes to the east coast. The storefront will feature artisan provisions “for fine food hunters and social gatherers,” carrying items to complement every picnic, intimate soiree, large gathering, or quiet night in. A majority of items sold will be from women-owned brands, alongside small-batch specialty products from around the country. Expect one-of-a-kind chef and brand collaborations, as well as in-store programming. Zack and Diana Wangeman Sobre Masa Tortilleria is now offering daily house-made Mexican pastries, a full espresso bar serving Oaxacan coffee, and an assortment of Mexican groceries, along with its freshly made tortillas and salsas.
Menu items include Mexican pastries like orejas (also commonly known as palmiers), corn cookies and conchas with flavors like chocolate, almond and vanilla. There are rotating tamales like Mole Negro with chicken, Pork in salsa verde, Rajas & queso fresco, and Mushrooms in salsa roja. Chef José Andrés' Mercado Little Spain is offering a holiday treat. In honor of Three Kings Day (1/6), the restaurant has prepared the classic, ubiquitous Spanish sweet to mark the official end of the holidays: Roscón de Reyes (Spanish Kings Cake).
Roscón de Reyes is an iconic pastry featuring round, sweet yeasted bread shaped to represent the crown worn by the kings. Baked inside is typically a toy baby (or king) and a dried bean. If you're served a slice with the baby it's your lucky day but bite into the bean and it’s your job to buy the cake next Christmas.
