Description:

Rivington Hospitality Group and acclaimed mixologist and bar owner Albert Trummer have partnered to establish the latest addition to the famed Hotel on Rivington, at 107 Rivington Street - S’Zen. A hybrid of the words Scene and Zen, S’Zen is the art aficionado’s respite and cocktail connoisseur’s hideaway. Part art gallery, part lounge, guests enter the 40-person exclusive bar through the hotel’s second floor lobby, opting to take a seat in front of Trummer and his protégés or sink into velvet Vladimir Kagan sofas. Trummer brings his illustrious background (Apotheke, Sanatorium) to wow guests with handcrafted libations of imaginative Asian influence.

Fans of Albert Trummer are familiar with his aptness for all-natural cocktails. S’Zen’s menu features housemade syrups from exotic botanicals like kabosu, nashi, yuzu, jasmine and hemp – transporting bar-comers to a zen-like state of mind. Watch bartenders hack ice with a Japanese sword while sipping creations from Trummer’s artistry, including the matcha-infused Green Kimono or the delightfully creamy, white crème de cacao and coconut milk Panda. S’Zen is the epitome of a Japanese whiskey bar with the pleasures of an American cocktail lounge and Trummer ensures no preference is left unmet. An omakase of cocktails is offered giving guests an opportunity to taste their way through libations ounce by ounce ($10 per oz.), selected from his carefully curated rare rums, gins, whiskeys, mezcals, tequilas, sake, and shochou from around the world.

S’Zen is home to curated art program Art on Rivington, brainchild of Corey Lane and Heather Sasaki. Together, Rivington Hospitality Group’s Corey Lane and Roberto Buchelli are owners of the restaurant Café Medi and next door lounge J I A, also located at the Hotel on Rivington. S’Zen exhibits original, seasonally rotated artwork, opening with the “Zen of Rock” collection from Peter Mars, a leader in the American avant-pop movement. For more than 25 years, his art has been shown everywhere from the William J. Clinton Presidential Library to galleries across the globe. The exhibition runs from January 19 to March 4.

S’Zen completes The Hotel on Rivington’s trilogy of establishments, and invites travelers and locals alike to savor a personalized experience at S’Zen, dinner at Café Medi and late-night music and cocktails at  J I A – all without leaving the building. S’Zen and Albert Trummer promise an evening of opulent surprise, not soon to be forgotten. S’Zen is open Wednesday – Saturday, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.. Reservations are recommended.

Art on Rivington is dedicated to providing the Lower East Side with stimulating, original and seasonally rotating exhibits. The art program began in February of 2016, with curated art exhibits throughout the Hotel on Rivington’s properties, which include the hotel, the coastal Mediterranean restaurant Café Medi, the exclusive night lounge J I A, and the newly opened S’Zen. In addition to the "Zen of Rock” collection from American avant-pop artist Peter Mars which opened S'Zen, Art on Rivington has hosted a springtime rooftop installation by renown street artists Nick Walker and Christina Angelina, a September showcase of Spanish-American artist Domingo Zapata’s work, and Brazilian-born Matheus Goulart’s “Style is the Limit” collection in November. The program has also featured the works of Oscar-winning actor/artist Adrien Brody, and British photographer Mick Rock – who is best known for his iconic pictures of rock and roll legends such Queen, David Bowie, Lou Reed, The Ramones and many others.
