Comal, a bold new restaurant inspired by the energy and cuisine of Mexico City, is now open on Manhattan’s Lower East Side at 116 Forsyth Street. Helmed by Chef Gaz Herbert—formerly of London’s River Cafe, Ikoyi, and NYC’s Jupiter—and head chef Scott McKay (Atomix, Fäviken), Comal blends global culinary experience with Mexican heat and heart. Guests can expect adventurous small plates like beef crudo with chapulines and huitlacoche, Montauk lobster with farm herbs, and crispy sweetbreads with pineapple and tortilla, alongside dishes like skate wing guiso and smoked half chicken with housemade hot sauce. Desserts range from a seasonal Comal rice to chocolate-guajillo torta. Until its cocktail program launches, guests can enjoy a curated wine list featuring Mexican, French, and Spanish selections. With interiors by La Metropolitana and art from JO-HS Gallery, Comal offers a transportive dining experience in a vibrant 42-seat space. Open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm to midnight.
