Cititour Review:

In the battle of the pizzas, you generally look to Brooklyn for some of the city's best slices at places like DiFara's and Totonno's. But there is one slice in the city worth paying a visit to Staten Island for, even if it means swallowing the $9 fare to cross the Verrazano bridge or trekking by ferry and bus (We don't recommend the latter). For native Staten Islanders, Denino's has been a destination spot since 1937 and is still as popular as ever. Large families and couples gather here for a delicious, and quite affordable meal, in a friendly atmosphere. Our meal began with some crispy calimari ($7), light and golden, and a delight to pop in your mouth smothered in the house marinara sauce. And it's that sauce that's also key to the delicious pies on hand. We devoured a mushroom and cheese pie ($10.50). The crust was nicely burnt around the edges capturing the flavor of the brick oven. And they have plenty of choices; including something called the "Garbage Pie" ($18) and the Denino's "M.O.R." ($15) topped with meatballs, onion and ricotta. We think you're gonna want more, so be sure to head over with a healthy appetite. And get there early if you want to snag a table. Denino's tends to get packed on weekends especially around dinnertime. But even if no tables are to be had, you don't you can always hang out by the bar drinking McSorley's on tap. Half pitchers run just five dollars.
