Cititour Review:

If you've ever wanted to feel like you just walked onto the set of the Godfather—and who hasn't, with its Old-World charm and memories of Manhattan in its heyday—then Elio's is the place for you. This Upper East Side Italian restaurant run by Elio Guaitolini has the dark, mahogany feeling of an old school boys' club, the Italian food of a Sicilian mamma and, unfortunately, the prices and slightly hoity-toity service of an Upper East Side establishment, but don't let that deter you, lest you miss out on the incredible food.

Start with mixed antipasto ($15), perfect for those who'd like to split an appetizer (or for those who can't make up their mind!) The assortment changes every so often but nearly always includes creamy buffalo mozzarella ($16). Ask your server for the day's selections.

For a main, consider the fettuccine amatriciana ($20) with guanciale and tomatoes, or the made-to-order seafood risotto ($27). The chicken scarpariello ($26), also cooked to order, may be the star of the menu. It takes 30 minutes to prepare, but peruse the wine list as you wait for your main to emerge from the kitchen: a dish of impeccably cooked chicken pleasantly eclipsed by the incredible sauce.
