Jack's Wife Freda in the West Village is a wildly popular destination for brunch. On weekends, the line literally stretches out the door. And with good reason. The place is quirky, yet full of charm, with a staff that bends over backwards and food that doesn't disappoint.
Breakfast specialties include the Madame Freda, a pressed sandwich with duck prosciutto, cheddar béchamel and sunny side up egg, along with orange blossom pancakes and "Eggs Benny," with smoked salmon and beet hollandaise over potato latkes. Dinner brings whole fish (head to tail), a sirloin steak, and burger with grilled tomato and fried onion. For dessert, try some flourless chipotle chocolate cake or maybe a slice of homemade spiced cheesecake. A ten dollar kids menu, featuring mini burgers and fish sticks, gives mom and dad a break.
Jack's Wife Freda is a true charmer and it shows.
