You will always find a long line heading to Los Tacos #1 in Chelsea Market. And for good reason. All the food here is wonderful. Tacos and tostados come with your choice of four fillings; carne asada (grilled steak), Pollo Asada (grilled chicken), Adobada (marinated pork), and Nopal (grilled cactus). The restaurant, which resembles a stand you might find at a Mexican street fair, also serves quesadillas and mulas, which are similar to a taco, but cooked on the griddle
They are easily among my favorite tacos in the city. Each served on corn or flour tortillas that simply melt in your mouth. My favorite are the corn tortillas, which are not always readily available, and these taste homemade. The meat is also cooked with care. Both the carne asada and adobaba are perfectly marinated. Prices for the tacos range from $3 to $3.50 apiece. They are not very large, so it is easy to consume two or three in no time. Each comes topped with fresh quacamole and your choice of salsa, hand-cut radishes and a lime wedges for a splash of citrus.
Los Tacos No. 1 is the perfect spot for a light snack or an all-out authentic Mexican meal with friends.
