Union Square is as diverse as the restaurants that surround it. From the Union Square Cafe to Lucy's Mexican Barbecue to Republic , all have found their niche.Review By: Sam Sayegh
Mandler's Original Sausage Company has also found its place, providing a quick, ultra-cheap meal in a bright, cheerful setting. And some of the best "brats" you'll find in town.
The sausages come in all shapes and sizes. You'll find bockwurst (pork and veal) and knockwurst (smoked beef and pork), spicy chorizos, turkey, seafood and a skinless veggie sausage. And yes, there's even a low-carb one.
We opted for the traditional Mandler's Bratwurst, a thick sausage made with beef and pork, nicely spiced, and topped with the house sauerkraut or sauteed onions and mushrooms. Add a large helping of fries or some red potato salad and you're still looking at under ten bucks.
Mandler's is not alone. In fact, it's one of several spots now serving gourmet dogs, including F&B in Chelsea and The Shake Shack in Madison Square Park.
So if you can't make it to Germany and are looking for a great brat, Mandler's offers the next best thing.
