Michael "Bao" Huynh, who already operates five Vietnamese restaurants, is ringing in the New Year with a burger joint. Mikey's on the Lower East Side opened on New Year's eve and already is becoming a neighborhood favorite.
I went for the corned beef burger expecting to get something that resembled a sloppy Joe. What arrived was a perfectly cooked burger (well done, but still plenty juicy) with a tangle of fried onions with bits of corned beef mixed in. It was excellent! I know because it was finished in no time flat. As were the fries, hand-cut and nice a crispy.
